LIVE CHESS TO BECOME AN INTERNATIONAL TOURIST ATTRACTIONJavea town hall has finalised the documents necessary to declare live chess an international tourist attraction. A general consensus is indispensable to get this distinction. This was passed in the last general meeting, when all parties voted in favour. The town hall sent all the information required (approval certificate by the general meeting, explanation documents of the activity and press cuttings of each international event where they have performed) to the Valencia Tourist Agency.
Now the Valencia agency must make a decision. A couple of years ago, the then Tourism Minister, Milagrosa Martinez, pre-passed Live Chess as an international tourist event with the Valencia agency. If the Valencia tourist agency gives the go ahead, documents relating to the Javea festival will be sent to the Tourism Secretary General for tourist quality and innovation, who have the final say in the matter.
Following the approval at the general meeting, Javea mayor, Eduardo Monfort has sent a letter to the society who organise Live Chess, the Mare de Deu del Loreto fiesta commission, who congratulated their team for their work and told them the paperwork in order and there should be decision shortly. For the mayor “Live chess has soon become a tourist attraction for our town and this has been mostly down to the hard work of the fiesta commission, who I would like to congratulate once again”
Rafael Andarias, manager of Live Chess said “this step is an enormous achievement for me. I sincerely think Live Chess deserves this mention, from the reaction at several cultural events. I would like to stress that Live Chess is a proposal created in Javea between us, and the unique element that gives it prestige is that it’s a theatrical event, portraying international events of the past few years. I would like to thank the mayor and the local government for their help in the 13 events we have held, both in the name of the fiesta commission and of the children who take part in the event. Live Chess in Javea already has the National tourist attraction distinction. But it has now passed the Spanish borders. |
